This project involved the design of a 6-foot tall Koinobori flag, titled "Two Ohanas", for an outdoor event in Tokyo, Japan. The Koinobori was displayed during May 2024 at the Tokyo Midtown Children's Day Festival. The design of "Two Ohanas" was tailored to cater to the vibrant and joyful atmosphere of the festival. It was displayed at Tokyo Midtown Garden, serving as both a captivating visual attraction and a testament to the cultural significance of Children's Day in Japan. The project was an opportunity to add a unique touch to an international event and to contribute to the festive spirit of the celebration.
My Koinobori design encapsulates the beauty of my two home locations, Sweden and Hawai‘i. On one side illustrates the national Swedish flower, Harebell, and the northern Swedish mountain, Sarektjåkkå, using cool blue tones to evoke Sweden’s colder climate.
The opposite side portrays the Hawaiian State flower, the yellow Hibiscus, and Oahu’s renowned Diamond Head crater, using warm orange and yellow colors to reflect Hawaiʻi’s tropical climate.
